1. Keep yourself well hydrated
Make a habit of drinking more water failing which the urine will be more concentrated and the chances to dissolve urinary salts are less.
On the other handmore water means easy dissolution of stones from urinary system at an early stage.
Lemonade and orange juice are advised as they contain citrates which prevents stone formation and increases expulsion.
2. High intake of calcium rich foods
Calcium oxalate stone, the most common type of stone is prevented if the calcium intake is high, this is reverse to common thinking but its true medically.
3. Eat less sodium in form of salt
A high-sodium diet will prevent calcium from being reabsorbed to body and will result in high calcium urine. This makes kidneys susceptible to calcium stones.
On the other hand, taking less salt or sodium helps to keep urine calcium levels low. The lower the urine calcium level will be protective as it will lower the risk of developing calcium kidney stones.
4. Take less of oxalate-rich foods
Oxalate kidney stones are derived from food rich in oxalates and calcium binds to it making it a strong stone in urinary system.
5. Take less meat / animal protein
Foods with high in animal protein content make increased urinary acid which eventually is a precursor of both uric acid and calcium oxalate kidney stones.
Types of meat to be avoided, beef, poultry, fish and pork.
