One of the most common problems occurring in the human body constitutes the kidney stones. Every year hundreds of patients are reported to have either big or small stones in the kidney. The cause for such frequent cases can be attributed to our eating habits, adulterated water intake etc. Thus, in order to avoid this problem, try to have a healthy diet and adhere to a healthy lifestyle.
Stones can develop in the various parts of your body including theĀ gall bladder, kidney etc. But, in the case when stones are in the kidney, one often undergoes severe pain, there can be urine related issues too.
Few years back, any kind of stone in the body was mainly treated via an open surgery where a patient took a lot of time to recover. The recovery period was about 1-3 months for some patients. Moreover, there was a lot of risk involved in the open surgery procedure. Though open surgery is still performed by the doctors in serious cases but now-a-days doctors and patients prefer other methods for kidney stone removal. These methods are less painful and the recovery time is far lesser than that of an open surgery. One such method of kidney stones removal is the Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy.
Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy
ESWL in Delhi is the least invasive surgical process and involves the use of high frequency sound waves to break down the stones in tiny particles. These particles are then allowed to pass through the urinary tract.
After the surgery, in few cases ,a pipe also called as stent is attached to the urinary tract of the patient so that he or she does not undergo any kind of pain while stone particles pass through their urinary tract. The sound wave is usually produced from an external source. The patient is made to lie on a special operating table, which contains a water- filled cushion. This cushion only helps to transmit the high frequency shockwaves to the kidney. The frequency of the sound waves is kept to the number which a human body can bear.
The process of ESWL is performed under general anesthesia. The patient is not allowed to have any kind of food or water in about 6 hours prior to the treatment. The patient is kept under observation for one day and then he/she can resume his/her normal life.
The patient is advised to visit the doctor if he/she experiences a lot of pain or bleeding while urinating, post-surgery. This may be due to a blockage in the urinary tract by the crushed stone particles. This is the reason as to why the patient is recommended to drink ample amount of water regularly for some days.
If the patient follows the medications and takes ample water during the treatment ,there are good chances of pain free passage of particles.
This procedure is termed as non invasive and day care procedure wherein patient is encouraged to perform routine work and advises and bed rest.
This regular movement and activity of fast walking or running facilitates fragmented stone passage from the ureter.
